1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to PDFMitra, operated by VarahBytes. By accessing or using our website at pdfmitra.in or the PDFMitra mobile app for iOS and Android (together, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Service.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the modified Terms.

2. Description of Service

2.1 Website (pdfmitra.in)

PDFMitra provides free online PDF manipulation tools including but not limited to:

• Merging multiple PDF files
• Splitting PDF files into separate documents
• Compressing PDF files to reduce size
• Converting images (JPG) to PDF
• Converting PDF files to Word documents
• Unlocking password-protected PDF files

Website tools send your file to our server, which processes it in memory and returns the result without storing it.

2.2 Mobile app (iOS & Android)

The PDFMitra mobile app provides a broader set of tools, including document scanning, page organising, watermarking, signing, text recognition and batch processing. Every tool in the app runs entirely on your device — no file is transmitted to us.

Because processing happens on your device, results depend on your device's available memory and storage. Very large documents may not be processable on older hardware.

2.3 Signing is a stamp, not a digital certificate

The app's Sign PDF tool places an image of your signature onto a page. It carries the same legal weight as signing a printout and scanning it back — it is not a cryptographic or certificate-backed digital signature, and does not meet standards such as eIDAS or the digital-signature provisions of the Indian IT Act. Do not rely on it where a certified digital signature is required.

2.4 Unlocking requires your password

The Unlock PDF tool removes protection from a document only when you supply the correct password. It performs no password recovery, guessing or circumvention, and must not be used on documents you are not authorised to access.

The Service is provided "as is" without any warranties, express or implied.

2a. PDFMitra+ (Paid Upgrade)

What it is

PDFMitra+ is an optional paid upgrade in the mobile app that unlocks additional tools such as Sign PDF, Lock and Unlock PDF, Watermark, Page Organiser, searchable-PDF text recognition, batch processing and bulk export.

PDFMitra+ never removes, limits or degrades a tool that is already free. Free tools stay free, at full quality, with no usage caps, no watermarks on your output and no advertising.

Billing and payment

• PDFMitra+ is offered as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.
• All payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive or store your payment details.
• Prices are shown in your local currency before you confirm, and are set through store pricing tiers. Prices may change; any change applies to future purchases and renewals, never retroactively.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time in your Apple or Google account settings — cancelling stops future renewals and you keep access until the end of the paid period.
• Where a free trial is offered it applies to the annual plan, and converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends.
• A lifetime purchase is a one-time payment for the current PDFMitra+ tool set and future additions to it, for as long as the app is maintained.

Refunds

Refunds are governed by the store you purchased through and are handled by Apple or Google rather than by us — we have no ability to issue one directly. Request a refund through Apple's Report a Problem page or your Google Play order history. Contact us first if something is wrong and we will help where we can.

Restoring a purchase

Your purchase is attached to your Apple or Google account rather than to an account with us, so it can be restored after reinstalling or on a new device of the same platform using "Restore purchase". A purchase made on iOS cannot be transferred to Android, or the reverse, because the two store accounts are separate. This is an inherent consequence of operating without user accounts, not a fault in the app.

3. User Responsibilities

3.1 Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not:

• Upload files containing illegal content
• Upload files you don't have the right to process
• Attempt to bypass any security measures
• Use the Service to harm others or violate their rights
• Upload malware, viruses, or malicious code
• Abuse the Service through excessive automated requests
• Attempt to reverse engineer or copy the Service

3.2 File Ownership

You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to all files you upload to our Service. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to process and modify the files you upload.

3.3 Password-Protected Files

When using our PDF unlock feature, you confirm that you have the legal right to remove password protection from the files. You must not use this feature to access files you do not own or have permission to modify.

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 Your Content

You retain all rights to the files you upload. By uploading files, you grant us a temporary, limited license to process them solely for the purpose of providing the requested service. This license terminates when your files are deleted from our servers (within 1 hour).

4.2 Our Content

The Service, including its design, code, and content (excluding user-uploaded files), is owned by PDFMitra and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our permission.

• Files are processed on secure servers
• Processed files are available for download immediately
• All uploaded files are automatically deleted within 1 hour
• We do not permanently store any user files
• File processing is subject to size and format limitations
• Maximum file size: 50MB per file

8. Service Availability

We strive to keep the Service available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to:

• Scheduled maintenance
• Technical difficulties
• Circumstances beyond our control
• Updates and improvements

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice.

9. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review ourPrivacy Policy to understand how we collect and use your information.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, for any reason, including but not limited to:

• Violation of these Terms
• Abuse of the Service
• Fraudulent or illegal activity
• At our sole discretion

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless PDFMitra, its owners, employees, and partners from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any rights of another person or entity
• Content you upload to the Service

11a. App Store & Google Play Terms

These additional terms apply when you obtain the mobile app from a platform store, and are required by those platforms.

Apple App Store

• These Terms are between you and VarahBytes only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
• If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
• Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Google Play

• These Terms are between you and VarahBytes only, not with Google.
• Your use of the app must also comply with the Google Play Terms of Service.
• Google is not responsible for the app, and provides no warranty or support for it.

Device requirements

The document scanner on Android relies on Google Play services and is unavailable on devices without them. Some features depend on operating-system capabilities and may be unavailable on older devices. We may end support for older OS versions in future releases.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
