This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website at pdfmitra.in and our PDFMitra mobile app for iOS and Android (bundle identifier com.varahbytes.pdfmitra).

By using PDFMitra, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Files You Process — Website

When you use our PDF tools on the website, you upload PDF files, images or documents. These files are:

Held in memory only for the few seconds the operation takes
Never written to disk and never stored — they are gone as soon as the response is sent
Never shared with third parties
Not used for any purpose other than providing the requested service
Never used to train any model

2.2 Files You Process — Mobile App

We collect nothing. Every tool in the app runs on your device, so your documents are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. We have no ability to see, store or recover a file you open in the app — including if you ask us to.

2.3 Analytics Data (website only)

We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with our website. The mobile app contains no analytics of any kind. This includes:

Pages visited and features used
Time spent on site
Browser type and device information
Geographic location (country/city level only)
Referring websites

2.4 Technical Information (website only)

We automatically collect certain information when you visit our website. The app sends none of this — apart from a crash report, if you have left those enabled:

IP address (anonymized)
Browser type and version
Operating system
Referring URL
Date and time of access

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for:

Service Delivery: Processing your PDF files as requested
Improvement: Analyzing usage patterns to improve our services
Security: Detecting and preventing abuse or fraudulent activity

4. File Security & Storage

Website (pdfmitra.in)

Your file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection
It is processed entirely in memory on our serverless functions
The result is returned directly in the response
Your file is never written to disk and never stored — it ceases to exist when the request completes
We keep no copy, no backup and no queue of uploaded documents

Mobile app (iOS & Android)

Files are selected from your device and processed by the app itself
Nothing is uploaded. There is no server involved in any tool, so no transmission takes place at all
Results are saved into the app's own storage on your device, and to Downloads or Files if you choose to save or share them
Every tool works with the device offline, which is the simplest proof that no upload happens
Deleting the app removes its files and its local history

Important: The app is the private option by design — for highly confidential documents we recommend it over the website, because nothing is transmitted. On the website, while we process files in memory and never store them, no method of transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed 100% secure.

Analytics Cookies

Google Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use our website. You can opt-out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Language Preference

We store your language preference to provide content in your preferred language.

The mobile app uses no cookies

The app is not a browser and sets no cookies. It stores your settings and local history on the device itself, and there is no tracking identifier, advertising identifier or cross-app profile of any kind.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Google Analytics

For website analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Vercel (website only)

For hosting and serverless functions. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.

RevenueCat (app only)

Handles PDFMitra+ purchases and checks whether a purchase is active. It receives purchase and subscription data from Apple or Google and an anonymous, randomly generated identifier. It never receives a file, a file name, or anything about the documents you open. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Firebase Crashlytics (app only)

Reports crashes so we can fix them. A report contains the technical details of the failure — the type of error, the code path, your device model, OS version and app version. File names, file contents and file paths are removed before a report is sent, and reports carry no name, email or advertising identifier. You can turn this off entirely in the app under Settings → Privacy. See Firebase's Privacy information.

No analytics in the app

Google Analytics runs on the website only. The mobile app deliberately ships no analytics SDK of any kind, so which tools you use, which files you open and how often you open the app are not recorded or transmitted anywhere. The app also contains no advertising and no ad SDKs.

6a. The Mobile App in Detail

No account, ever

The app requires no sign-up, no email address and no phone number. We hold no user accounts, so there is no profile of you to request, export or delete.

What the app stores on your device

Your settings — theme, language, optional display name and output naming preference
A local history of files the tools produced, which records file names and locations on your device only
Whether a PDFMitra+ purchase is active

All of this stays on the device and is never transmitted to us. An optional display name, if you choose to enter one, is used only to greet you in the app.

Permissions the app asks for

Camera — only when you use the document scanner. Images are processed on the device and never uploaded.
Photo library — only when you choose photos to convert into a PDF, and only the items you pick.
Storage / Files — to open the documents you select and to save your results where you can find them.

The app requests no location, no contacts, no microphone and no advertising permissions.

PDFMitra+ purchases

PDFMitra+ is an optional paid upgrade that adds extra tools. It is purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play, and those companies process your payment — we never see or receive your card details. Because the purchase is attached to your Apple or Google account rather than an account with us, you can restore it after reinstalling without signing in to anything of ours. A purchase made on iOS cannot be transferred to Android, or the reverse, because the two store accounts are separate.

Platform privacy disclosures

On the App Store, the app declares that it collects Diagnostics (crash data) and Purchases, neither linked to your identity. The equivalent Google Play Data Safety declaration states that crash logs and purchase history are collected and that data is encrypted in transit. Neither platform listing declares collection of your documents, because none takes place.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: Request access to your personal information
Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
Deletion: Request deletion of your data
Objection: Object to processing of your data
Portability: Request transfer of your data
Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time

8. Children's Privacy

PDFMitra does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. Data Retention

We retain different types of data for different periods:

Uploaded files (website): Not retained at all — processed in memory and discarded when the request completes
Files in the mobile app: Never received by us, so there is nothing to retain. They stay on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app
Analytics data (website only): Retained for 26 months (Google Analytics default)
Log data: Retained for 30 days for security purposes
Crash reports (app only): Retained by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days, and contain no file names or contents
Purchase records: Retained by RevenueCat, Apple and Google for as long as needed to honour your purchase and meet tax and accounting obligations

10. International Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than India. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
